Testimonials by Readers of “Intergalactic Space Farting Koalas”

“I am trying to support people suffering from mental health issues. I believe mental health care should start early in life by allowing people to talk about events they have experienced that have had a negative impact.”

I recently started reading the book ‘Intergalactic Space Farting Koalas’ - the first 20 pages. Yesterday, I picked it up again. It was so captivating that I couldn’t put it down until I had finished reading it! It is also very educational for everyone, and especially for children. It shows that free wild koalas are more intelligent than us humans due to their instinct, and that biodiversity is very important. Humans focus purely on profit. Everything else, plants and animals, even though more precious, is destroyed.

I loved your book, Marcus! I feel as if you have left me asking myself so many questions, such as: What name did Jack give his little girl? I hope it was Josephine. What happened to Grand Ma? Did Ralph, Mick and Jock clean up their act and start helping out? When can I expect book number two?"
Monica, Farm Tree Australia, 2021

Marcus’ book contains so many interesting interwoven stories. All ages can identify with one of them. The main story is about koalas fighting for their survival during a massive bushfire. Then, there are the little sub-stories, such as how the koalas run along a bumpy road towards the Fire Monster, and explanations of the differences, such as in language, between the different koala groups. It’s a bit like country folk and city folk who each have their own language, culture, and expectation of behaviour. I can’t wait for the next book, to see whether Jack makes it home. Thanks, Koala Man!

I enjoyed how there are three different types of koalas in the book, and how different environments cause different behaviour patterns in the koalas. It was interesting to read about how a koala’s behaviour affects its body patterns. This could help young minds understand the importance of dealing with emotions appropriately during difficult times.

I hope this book gets the credit it deserves, as it’s so much more than a koala story. It can really help students and teenagers navigate through their early parts of live. My son and daughter both read the book, and it sparked a very interesting family discussion around the dinner table, not just about koalas, but about our emotions and how we use them in our relationships with friends and school mates. It’s a rather in-depth book. Thank you, Marcus.

I read this wonderful koala book to my students. The part of the story the students enjoyed most was how the Intergalactic Space Farting Koalas came to help the two koala groups on Earth when they were in trouble. It’s a great metaphor for students, and all of us really – to recognise the importance of helping each other through difficult times in our lives. A great thought process by the author.

I bought the space koala book for some light reading, but ended up realising that the book is so much more than that. It gives the reader an insight into the way koalas are looked after in zoos and wildlife parks, the amount of work involved and the process of feeding koalas. There’s so much more work involved in caring for koalas than I first thought! I had always thought it would be a simple task to look after koalas. How wrong I was!
Thanks, Marcus, for a fun read and for shining some light on your work as a koala carer!

I love this book. I read it to my kids. They enjoyed all the dramas the koalas went through. My 12-year-old particularly liked the chapter with the fire monster. After our big fires in 2019, my son was particularly interested about finding out that fire requires air to breath, just as all other living beings on this planet. He didn’t know this, and he has now taken a real interest in science! He just loved the way the space koalas used their farts to restrict oxygen on those spot fires. That was very funny! A great little book. I can highly recommend it for children of all ages.

Thanks, Marcus, for supporting our koalas by writing ‘Intergalactic Space Farting Koalas’! Koalas are very special to our family of five. My daughter loved the female characters in the book, especially Ann and Nurse Betty, but she felt very sorry for Bear, the odd ball, who seemed to be misplaced no matter what he did. This made her think, and she ended up confiding in me how she feels the same when playing sports at school. I’d had no idea she felt this way. If it wasn’t for this book, I may have never found out. We are doing something about it now. Thanks, Intergalactic Space Farting Koalas.

This book is so funny. My kids and I laughed so hard. We ended up staying up late into the night one Friday, and now, my kids can’t stop talking about the book. They have a new appreciation of koalas. They even googled everything about koalas. We are now going to our local wildlife park for the first time since they were babies. Thanks, Marcus, the Koala Man!

Wow, what a book! I decided to read the book, after my daughter had read it and became suddenly so into koalas. Which is great, as we have some koalas here in the Blue Mountains. I read the book myself to find out what had triggered this interest in koalas, and also to be able to answer any questions my daughter had about ‘space koalas’.
As a parent and teacher, I enjoy how the illustrator used different body patterns in the various koala characters. Not only was it easy to identify each character, but the patterns also seemed to express the koalas’ mood, and even their personality.
There were plenty of other hidden positive messages in the book. I am so happy that my daughter has a new interest. We both laugh and joke about space koalas between us now. Thanks. Marcus, from me, and from my daughter Amy: ‘Thanks, Koala Man.’
